“Take a Little Trip to Indonesia—One Cup at a Time”

On a warm June evening, in a beautifully aged building in central Taichung, we gathered not just to sip coffee—but to connect with the world.
One café. One brand. One origin.
This was more than just a coffee tasting for 15 guests. It felt like a journey. Together with Indonesia’s coffee brand Paper Knot Coffee and local Taichung café HAUSINC, we hosted “Solright × Indonesia Coffee Tasting Vol.2.
The event was held at HAUSINC 1035, a thoughtfully restored space that once served as a hospital during the Japanese era. Now, it’s full of stories, design, and soul. With beautiful surroundings, rich coffee, and meaningful conversations, every moment became a blend of senses and culture.
“This wasn’t just about tasting coffee—it was a deep conversation across land and time.”
Coffee Flavor Is the Language of the Land
Flavor doesn’t come from technique. It comes from the land.
We were honored to have Gilbert, the founder of Paper Knot Coffee, guide us through the tasting. With passion and detail, he introduced each unique Indonesian coffee—from Sumatra to Java to Bali—sharing how local farmers use natural sun-drying, wet-hulling, or even carbonic maceration to express the true character of their region.
These beans were handpicked during our visit to World of Coffee Indonesia (WOC) this May. About 15 unique coffees, each from different Indonesian roasters, brought the true taste of their homeland straight to our table.
“Every fermentation and drying process is a collaboration between the land, the weather, the people, and their culture.”
Every Cup, Freshly Ground with the Solright DB-1
Every cup ground fresh with the Solright DB-1.
Throughout the night, we used our Solright DB-1 hand grinder to prepare each coffee—whether for cupping or hand brewing. The DB-1 helps showcase the unique personality of each bean.
To us, a good grinder is more than just a tool. It’s a bridge—a way to truly understand your coffee. The DB-1 is our answer to making specialty coffee more approachable, more intuitive.
Why guests loved the DB-1 on-site
– 80-click adjustable dial for quick grind changes
– 2-second quick-release for easy cleaning
– Ergonomic handle—comfortable, even for smaller hands

A Surprise Visit: World Coffee Roasting Champion Taufan Mokoginta
The surprise of the night — the 2023 World Coffee Roasting Champion.
Toward the end of the event, we welcomed a very special guest—Taufan Mokoginta, the 2023 World Coffee Roasting Champion and founder of Ultra Coffee Indonesia.
Taufan shared his journey of building a coffee brand in Indonesia and walked us through the flavor profiles and processing methods behind several Ultra Coffee selections.
“Great flavor starts with the land—and is brought to life by people.”
What made this gathering truly special wasn’t just the taste of the coffee—but the spirit of sharing, connection, and discovery.
